probably my dumbest move yet

This has got to rank up there as one of my worst experiments ever.

Tuesday night I decided to try out a new recipe I sourced from the 200 or so protein-packed posts I've saved off of instagram. (Pro tip: the recime app is a lifesaver when it comes to actually using the recipes you've bookmarked for "someday.")

Lemongrass minced beef with veggies.

Sounded innocent enough.

The grocery store was out of fresh lemongrass, so I walked up the street to the Vietnamese market.

They only had dried lemongrass tea.

Close enough, I thought. I'll just steep a bunch of tea and make a sauce with it.

I thought wrong. Very wrong.

The herbalists reading this might know where this is going.

Within an hour of eating, I was sick, dizzy, and felt like I could nap for days.

Turns out concentrated amounts of lemongrass tea can be dangerous for those with really low blood pressure (hey there!) and can cause fatigue and upset stomach.

I promise not to give you culinary advice, but I can help you avoid making other dumb mistakes.

Like not tracking your data.

I can't tell you how many website audits I perform where people haven't taken the time to set up analytic tools that can give you clear insight into what's working - and what's not.

One of my free favorite tools to get clear insight about your website traffic?

Google Search Console.

And this week it's gotten even better.

Because now you can use it get insights about search and your social media accounts.

Fair warning - I just got access to this new feature myself yesterday, so I can't give you much more intel.

But if you're interested in checking it out, here's how to set it up:

  1. Go to https://search.google.com/search-console/about
  2. Click Start Now.
  3. Click the drop down link and select add property. Choose the platform you want to track - instagram, tiktok, x or youtube (add your website too if you haven't already set this up).
  4. Click allow Google to access your account.

Note: It will take up to 48 hours for the data to appear in your account - and it will only show data from the time you've set up the account.

you've got this,
Michelle

p.s. I'm not going to share the recipe because I don't want to kill you. But honestly it tasted pretty good before I was about to pass out.

p.p.s. miss last week's email? read it here: this bugs me too

I recoiled as I opened up my latest Poshmark score.Dark yellow stains on the back of crisp white jeans.Did they really think I wouldn't notice? I try not to buy a lot of new clothing - there's enough out there on the secondhand market to quench one's insomnia-driven shopping sprees (and frankly trying on pants in a store ranks up there with getting a cavity filled). But it goes to show that people are getting S L O P P Y (a notion I've shared with no less than 3 fellow business friends over...

"Can you explain this to me? Do I need to worry about this?"I get these kinds of emails whenever a client gets sent an automated analytics report (and let me tell you, a lot of tools don't make them easy to understand - looking at you Google Search Console). The reality is most business owners have no idea how to find the metrics that matter. And often they don't even know what questions they should be asking. These days we've got access to more data than we know what to do with - but slogging...

May the notoriously finicky Amtrak wi-fi gods bless me right now. I'm on the train headed to Boston to visit one of my favorite clients and I figured this would be an apt moment to answer a reader question that came in yesterday. "Your email last week (this one move saved 2500 a month) on saving money by auditing your subscriptions really inspired me! I'm downsizing my business and realizing Kit is one of my highest expenses. I could save a lot by getting rid of Kit and using Kajabi for my...
