hair today, gone tomorrow

I finally gave in.

It's been 8 months since my longtime hairdresser up and left me for Arizona.

Since then, I've just been stuffing it in a ponytail and hoping for the best. My husband's been coloring my hair, painstakingly painting my grays and calling it his meditation.

On the plus side, I've already saved 2k in fees.

But it's time for a chop and I needed to find someone who could tame the nest.

If you've got curly hair, you know the struggle to find someone who won't style you like a shaggy dog.

And good luck searching google these days to find what you need.

Instead I asked ChatGPT for the best curly hair stylist in Richmond.

Chat shows where it cites its reference sources AND it gave me the names of 4 recommended stylists.

I called the second one on the list because I knew it was a solid salon (and walkable from my house).

From chat to booked in just under 3 minutes.

That's the reality right now - we're using bots to find the specific things we need. How people search (and find you and your business) is changing - and if you want to be found by the LLMs like ChatGPT there's a few things you can take action on now.

My search smart friend Meg Clarke and I are cooking something up to help you make sure the bots know who you are. We'll be sharing what we're doing now to prepare our sites (and businesses) for the future.

you've got this,

p.s. here's my favorite chat hack of the week. Are you like me and constantly taking screenshots of prompts you find on instagram (you know, those ones where they don't share the prompt in the caption so you can cut and paste? so annoying.) I've been uploading the screenshot to chat, asking it to pull the prompts and then run the prompt for the specific site or client I want to use it on. Also works for small print you can't read - like labels!

p.p.s. Summer Minima consults are BACK on the calendar. Turns out I needed to take off less time for recovery than expected (thank you to protein shakes, my amazing surgeon and the entire 69 episode run of Columbo for getting me through the last few weeks).

quick invite: I'm hosting a live peek inside my email strategies with Kit Nov. 26th.Grab your free spot here. Post surgery-restrictions mean I'm not much fun right now. No dancing, no reaching cookies on high shelves, and definitely no hot tubs (or "bacteria factories" as my surgeon calls them). But I'm not that sad about unfettered time to catch up with friends and watch long-form documentaries like the epic one about Billy Joel.I was catch-up voxing last week when my friend told me she was...

Officially day seven without coffee. No one tells you that one thing you really should avoid during post-surgery recovery is the sweet nectar of caffeine. Yadda, yadda, something about dehydration and delayed healing.Gah, I miss it. I don't have many vices these days. It's hard breaking my well-worn habit of hitting the Nespresso button twice while simultaneously checking my inbox and shoveling 20 grams of protein milk into my giant cup of joe in an effort to appease the internet macros gods.I...

Probably one of the best perks of designing digital products for stellar clients like Laura Belgray? I get first dibs access to their premium content. So when said client got known for writing prolific (and sales-inducing) newsletters, I started paying close attention.A few years back, I promised myself that I would start writing a consistent newsletter (generally sent on Fridays - barring major illness, travel or a contagious case of idontwannaitis) - but only if I could have fun with...
